HAUPPAUGE, NY — As Long Islanders practice social distancing and make personal sacrifices as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, many look to those on the front lines as inspiration. Patch will be highlighting Long Islanders who are going above and beyond in their work and community to help during the COVID-19 health crisis. Brenna Darby was nominated by a friend who noticed her positive attitude and hard work during the difficult weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic on Long Island. Darby, a Hauppauge resident, works as an ICU nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Darby works four days a week in the ICU while continuing her education online to become a nurse practitioner. According to Darby's friend "she always brings her positive attitude and light to work and gives her absolute best to each of her patients. " Darby tries to boost her coworker's morale as they work through the crisis, even decorating her personal protective equipment (PPE) as a bunny rabbit on Easter Sunday in the hospital. "She's always a positive light on whatever floor she is floated to," the friend told Patch.
