Manhattanville Surprises First Nursing Students: WATCH

PURCHASE, NY —Manhattanville College recently hosted an open house for the new School of Nursing and Health Sciences, and invited the candidates who had applied for admission. Then they surprised them with their acceptance letters. The ceremony took place in the new state of the art clinical learning labs. During the tour, Brian Sondey, Director of Graduate Admissions, and Associate Dean Patricia Stout-Traina handed out envelopes to the first students going into the Accelerated Second-Degree program in nursing. "There is one final step that we have to take," Sondey said. Watch the video to see their stunned reactions. Dean Debra Simons said, "We are delighted to welcome our first accepted students into theManhattanville College Accelerated Second Degree program. They have embarked upon awonderful transformative journey by taking the first steps in pursuit of their goal to become aregistered professional nurse." "Our inaugural accepted students embody everything that our program aspires for our futurestudents to be," said Sondey. "This group has proven to be flexible, resilient, caring, and thorough as applicants and I have no doubt that they will continue to shine as representatives of our program when they begin their first courses this summer." The students come from Marist College, the University of Scranton, and SUNY Plattsburgh. They hail from the Bronx, Westchester and Putnam counties and the average undergraduate GPA of the applicants was 3.34. Manhattanville recently received approval to launch degree programs through its new School ofNursing and Health Sciences from the New York State Education Department. Manhattanvillenow offers two degrees in nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing for traditional 4-year andtransfer students as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for second-degree students whoalready hold a bachelor's degree.
