Description
HARRISON, NY — Residents of New York's 17th Congressional District have a chance to see and listen to the growing number of candidates for the seat long held by Nita Lowey.
Among those Democrats seeking or exploring are Evelyn Farkas, a former assistant deputy assistant secretary of defense in the Obama administration; Assemblyman David Buchwald, a White Plains Democrat representing the 93rd District of New York; State Senator David Carlucci, D-Rockland/Westchester; Sleepy Hollow resident Allison Fine, the former chairwoman of the pro-choice organization NARAL; Mondaire Jones, who worked in the DOJ under the Obama administration and more recently served as a litigator in the Westchester County Law Department; Asha Castleberry-Hernandez, a combat veteran; Adam Schliefer, the prosecutor in the celebrity-college-admissions scandal; and David Katz of Orangeburg.
The second of the continuing Purchase Congressional Town Halls is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Humanities Theater at Purchase College.
Confirmed candidates for the Dec. 5 town hall include Allison Fine, David Katz, Evelyn Farkas, and Asha Castleberry-Hernandez.
The first of the town halls occurred Nov. 14. There, Jones, Buchwald, and Carlucci answered submitted questions on issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, the Green New Deal, campaign finance reform, and Carlucci's political past with the Independent Democratic Caucus.
The creator and moderator of the Purchase town halls is Max Micallef, Board Member and GSA Liaison with Hudson Valley GLSEN, and Senior Correspondent with the national The Student Post.
