Officer Stops Another Wrong-Way Driver In Harrison: Watch

HARRISON, NY — Once again, a Harrison police officer has stopped a wrong-way driver. Department officials said this one was crossing the Anderson Hill Road bridge over I-287 going the wrong direction. While Officer Nicholas Mehlrose approached, the driver narrowly avoided colliding with two vehicles and headed to an exit ramp from Westchester Avenue, police said. The last time Harrison police caught a wrong-way driver was just two weeks ago, Feb. 9. That time the driver was heading east on the westbound side of Westchester Avenue, also in broad daylight. The time before that, Jan. 30, New York State police got a report of a wrong-way driver on I-287, but before they could get there he caused a crash that killed two people in the oncoming car he hit head-on. Watch: Westchester County's Department of Public Works/Transportation is the process of reviewing the latest 'wrong-way driver' incidents. In addition, Westchester County Executive George Latimer is creating a new Traffic Safety Task Force, made up of citizens and elected officials, to review all entrance and exit ramps on the Bronx River Parkway. This review is meant to take inventory of potential problem zones in light of recent 'wrong-way driver' incidents. The Task Force is to identify potential immediate 'common sense' remedies, like new signage, and act quickly on the recommendations. Our number one job in government is to ensure public safety," Latimer said. "For a variety of reasons, drivers in Westchester are finding themselves in life-threatening situations due to motorists operating their vehicle on the wrong side of the road.
