Asked To Step Out Of Car On I-95, Man Drives Off Instead: NYSP

HARRISON, NY — Being asked to step out of the car was too much for a Massachusetts driver stopped on I-95 Monday, according to New York State police. Police said they stopped a car at 1:45 a.m. for a vehicle and traffic violation. While interviewing the occupants, they concluded they had probable cause to search the vehicle. However, when instructed to get out of the car, driver Jammy Alphonse of Everett, MA, instead started the vehicle and pulled away, police alleged. Alphonse pulled over six miles later and was taken into custody, police said. He was transported and processed at state police barracks in New Rochelle. Now Alphonse faces charges of Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, and Resisting Arrest, all Class A Misdemeanors. He is due in Harrison town court on Sept. 29.
