Adam Sandler's Salem-Based 'Hubie Halloween' Debuts On Netflix

SALEM, MA — North Shore residents can try to sneak a peek at some familiar sights around Salem, Danvers and Marblehead in Adam Sandler's Salem-based "Hubie Halloween" starting Wednesday on Netflix. The new comedy — which features frequent Sandler movie and former "Saturday Nigh Live" pals Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Maya Rudolph, Tim Meadows, Ray Liotta, Steve Buscemi and Kenan Thompson — is the story of Sandler as a Halloween fan turned holiday hero in Salem. The movie is set in Salem, where several scenes were filmed. Other Massachusetts shooting locations included Danvers, Marblehead and the Mendon Drive-In movie theater. The production crew filmed some final scenes in Los Angeles in July after production was halted due to the onset of the coronavirus health crisis in March. The initial reviews — as is the case with many Sandler comedies — have been tepid with Rotten Tomatoes critics giving it a 54 percent approval rating as of Wednesday morning.
