Bridge Street Construction In Salem Begins Next Week

SALEM, MA — A Complete Streets project to realign Bridge Street, add bicycle facilities and new pedestrian signals, as well make changes to the Boston Street and Flint Street intersections, will begin next week. The project also involves reconstructing a second of Goodhue Street. Two new pedestrian signals will be installed on Boston Street and the Flint Street intersection. The project also includes roadway pavement milling and resurfacing, Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks, crosswalks and ramps, drainage modifications, new LED lighting, new signage and pavement markings and the planting of new trees. Work hours ate 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. next week with temporary traffic management barriers in place, erosion controls and a staging area set up and excavations beginning. Starting Oct. 5, drainage structures and pipe will be installed, as well as new hydrants. Two-way traffic is expected to remain in place during the first two weeks of the project, but drivers are urged to exercise caution in the work zone.
