Harlem Globetrotters Surprise Quarantined Students On Video Call

HARLEM, NY — Two members of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team surprised a group of young fans who had planned to emulate the ballers at a school talent show before it was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Nine students from Haddonfield, New Jersey planned a Globetrotters skills routine for their elementary school talent show — complete with matching red-white-and-blue uniforms and basketballs — but were unable to perform when schools were shut down. When the disappointment broke, the boys' parents organized for the group to conduct their performance digitally on a Zoom video call. The parents also brought the story to the Harlem Globetrotters, who organized a special surprise for the boys after their showcase. After the performance, which featured dribbling skills, witty banter and some dance moves, Globetrotters athlete Hammer Harrison called in from his home in Tampa, Florida and gave the kids a round of applause. "With awesome moves like that, I had to join the party," Hammer told the boys. After introducing himself, Hammer performed some dribbling tricks of his own before calling in Globetrotter Cheese Chisholm from his New York City apartment. The boys then took turns asking Hammer and Cheese questions about their favorite basketball tricks and their travels with the Globetrotters. Watch the full video below:
