HARLEM, NY — Polls have closed in New York City and votes are being counted, including for the 71st State Assembly District general election, where Alfred E. Taylor became an automatic winner after running unopposed.
Taylor, who lives in northern Harlem, took office in 2017 after being chosen by party insiders following the retirement of his mentor, longtime Assemblyman Herman D. Farrell Jr.
Taylor was likewise unopposed for re-election in 2018, and survived a Democratic primary challenge this year from Guillermo Perez with about 77 percent of the vote.
