Fittingly, Cindy’s final year as Chair coincides with the graduation of the first class to complete the Core. Please join us to celebrate!
This summer, Cindy Bair Van Dam will step down from her role as the inaugural Faculty Chair of the AU Core and return to full-time teaching in the Writing Studies Program. Cindy served in the Faculty Chair role for 7 years (an education, to be certain) and led the design and implementation of the AU Core Curriculum. We often nod to the unanimous vote of approval by the Faculy Senate as evidence that this has been an exceptional achievement, but it is important to acknowledge that it was made possible in large part because of the leadership, creativity, and collegiality that Cindy brought to this endeavor. We hope you will join us for a celebration of her dedication and commitment to liberal education and the AU community.
We are also excited to mark the graduation of our first class to complete the new Core. Cindy would be the first to acknowledge that you all have been instrumental in helping our campus community navigate this period of change, which included more than 50 town halls and workshops on learning outcome development and the review of more than 575 course proposals. It is fitting that we also treat this occasion as an opportunity to come together and toast your contributions to the most significant curriculum implementation at AU in two decades.
