HARLEM, NY — A subway operator died last week after being found unconscious while stopped in a subway station in Harlem, according to the MTA and the FDNY. At 1:22 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, a northbound 3 train was stopped safely in the 145th Street station when the train's conductor closed the doors and noticed the train was not moving. The conductor went to check on the driver, Kevin White, 55, and found him unconscious, suffering from possible cardiac arrest, according to the FDNY. Paramedics brought White to Harlem Hospital, but he did not survive. "It is with deep sadness that the MTA family has learned of the tragic passing of train operator Kevin White, a 31-year veteran of NYC Transit who has moved countless New Yorkers for decades," Interim NYC Transit President Sarah Feinberg said in a statement. "Even in his final moments, Kevin was a heroic worker who brought his passengers safely into the station while apparently in medical distress. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time." White worked an early morning shift, starting his days before 4 a.m. and working until the afternoon, according to the Daily News, which first reported on his death.
