December 7, 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOCAL ARTS NONPROFIT OFFERS REMOTE WRITING WORKSHOPS THIS WINTER [WESTPORT, CT] An energized, local nonprofit with a mission to promote the literary arts, Westport Writers' Workshop (WWW) has had a ground-breaking year. In March of 2020, we moved our entire organization online using Zoom to continue and expand our workshop offerings. We've grown our menu of workshops and instructors, including thirty-four weekly workshops beginning the week of January 11th, 2021. Registration will be open for all for all of these workshops on Monday, December 14th. We have also continued and grown our outreach programs, which brings the power of the written word to underserved and special populations such as inner-city high school students, low-income immigrant women, domestic abuse and sexual assault survivors, and more recently special workshops for: essential workers, writers healing from trauma and breast cancer. In addition, we've increased our free events for the public including readings, panels, and drop-in writing hours. Our top-notch classes appeal to writers at all levels of experience. We seek cover a range of genres, including poetry, screenwriting, personal essay/memoir and fiction. As one of our long-time students, Monica Woo, shared, "The Westport Writers Workshop has transformed my life. Being a novice and amateur, I have benefited so much from your practical tips. Your insights have opened up a new horizon how to get work published." We've recently hired multiple new faculty members, including Rahla Xenopoulos, the author of A Memoir of Love and Madness (Random House), and the novels Bubbles, (Penguin.) Tribe (Penguin) and The Season of Glass (Penguin), as well as Alfred Brown IV, a recent graduate of USC's doctoral program in Literature and Creative Writing, with writing in venues like Fence, Diagram, Heartworm Press, and a forthcoming hybrid book of prose called Concrete Flag, and Joanna Simmons, writer, director, performer, and creative collaborator based in NYC. Recap: Over 34 weekly writing workshops available from anywhere via Zoom Registration opens Monday, December 14th at: https://www.westportwriters.org/winter-workshops/ Partial scholarships available!
