WESTPORT, CT — A 19-year-old Bronx, New York, woman — who is already facing similar charges in New Canaan — was arrested on a warrant by Westport police this week on charges accusing her of passing a counterfeit $100 bill in town, according to authorities. Jeanise Perez surrendered to Westport police on Monday and was charged with first-degree forgery, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny. Westport police said the incident occurred on May 24 at The Country Store on Wilton Road. Store personnel reported a customer had passed a suspected counterfeit $100 bill to make a $5.75 purchase. She was given a change balance of $94.25 and left the store. "The transaction was captured on surveillance video and this suspect was found to have arrived in the company of two other individuals," Westport police said. Westport police detectives launched an investigation, which included information sharing with other law enforcement agencies, and were able to positively identify Jeanise Perez as the suspect. A warrant was obtained for her arrest. In the New Canaan case, Perez is accused of trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at several retail establishments in that town two days after the Westport transaction. Perez was released by Westport police on $2,500.00 non-surety bond, and she is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 12.
