WESTPORT, CT — A 34-year-old Westport woman was charged with risk of injury to a minor Wednesday morning after she locked herself and a child in her home and threatened to "arm" herself against trespassers or police if they tried to enter, according to authorities. The standoff began at about 11 a.m. when officers were called to a Greens Farms home on a report of a disturbance, and were greeted by Candice Sullivan. As the officers began speaking with her about the nature of the call, "Sullivan became agitated and locked herself inside the home," which also was occupied by a juvenile. "While inside, Sullivan made statements to the effect that if anyone attempted to enter she would arm herself against trespassers including police officers with firearms stored within it," Westport police said. At that time, additional officers were called to the scene, and they quickly set up a perimeter around the home and began clearing out people in the area. According to police, the standoff only lasted about 10 minutes before Sullivan surrendered and was taken into custody. Whether any weapons were found in the home was not disclosed. Sullivan was released after posting a $1,000 bond, and she is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 18.
