Description

Press release from the Port Jefferson School District: April 27, 2022 How does your garden grow? Port Jefferson School District students are finding that out as part of a unit in the life skills science curriculum. Students in Michelle Landetta's self-contained science class at Port Jefferson Middle School and Gina Fedler's class at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School are growing peas, lettuce and cucumbers in their hydroponic growing stations. This revolutionary way to grow plants allows students to observe the plants as they mature without the use of soil. According to District Director of Special Education Dr. Jodi Cahill, the real-world connection to science through collaboration and experimentation is one of the highlights of this class project.
