NORTHPORT, NY — JoJo, a 7-month-old velvety black fur male kitten, and Rebecca, a 2-year-old female Tortie cat, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Pets of the Week. "Sometimes it happens! Through no fault of their own, they are the last 2 cats in our habitats at the moment," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the cat rescue. JoJo is silly and playful. He came from a colony when he was just a baby with his siblings, according to Wild. All of them have been adopted except for him. "The funny thing is he was the most outgoing of the group," Wild said. "He looked out for all of them. He has been left behind, but he holds no resentment. He looks so forward to the daily visits from our volunteers. As often happens, he has started to think of his cage at Petco Huntington as home. He is loved, but lonely at times and sad as he looks out the habitat or when it is time for our volunteers to leave. He has proven to get along with other cats, and has even shown interest in dogs, often going up to the window to greet them at Petco. He is a joy and a love, and just needs a chance." However, unlike JoJo, who was probably born there, she was either lost or abandoned there, Wild said. "When the feeders found her, she ran over to them for help, and they just could not leave her behind," Wild said. "She went into foster care and was a sweetheart, sleeping in between her foster parents. Since being in our habitats she has shown how sweet she is, but she is definitely sad. We think she realizes she is safe, but she is confused as to why she is still in a cage, sometimes not even wanting to come out to play." Both felines are in desperate need of a home they can call their own, Wild said. "Being in our habitats is a very important part for some of our rescue cats' journey to find their furever family, as it gives them the opportunity to display their adorable personalities to potential adopters, but when we see them get passed over too often, it gets harder and harder to leave them there," Wild said. "They are wonderful and either one would be a special addition to any family. They just need a chance." Both are neutered or spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting JoJo or Rebecca, you may head to the Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet her or any of our wonderful kittens and cats!
