NEW CITY, NY — The installation of a sign structure over the northbound New York State Thruway near exit 13 in Clarkstown will necessitate multiple overnight traffic stops Wednesday and Thursday.
The installation work on I-87/I-287 also will require lane closures on both nights near the New Jersey - Palisades Interstate Parkway - Bear Mountain State Park - exit. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.
Seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
Lasting about 20 minutes each, at least two traffic stops will occur in both the northbound and southbound lanes on Wednesday.
Two traffic stops are also scheduled for overnight Thursday, but only in the northbound direction.
On Wednesday, lane closures will start after 8 p.m. followed by simultaneous traffic stops in both directions after 11:30 p.m. to allow for the safe installation of the steel sign structure over the northbound highway. As part of the work, traffic in both directions will be reduced to one lane northbound and two lanes southbound.
On Thursday, lane closures will start after 8 p.m. followed by traffic stops after 11:30 p.m. in the northbound direction only to allow for the safe installation of two large sign panels on the structure. As part of the work, traffic will be reduced to one lane northbound.
All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Variable Message Signs have been activated ahead of the work zone to alert motorists.
