Description
Press release from the Unitarian Church In Westport: Oct. 13, 2020 This Saturday, October 17, concerned people from around the world will be marching in sisterhood and solidarity for the equal rights of women. This is in part a build off of the march on January 21, 2017 -- the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, btw! We here at the Unitarian Church in Westport, and our friends in the area, want to support this effort. There will be a gathering in Stamford CT at 10:30 AM, and some of us are going there.* And we are also arranging a virtual opportunity to show our support even while we are vigilant about social distancing and public health. So - please join us either in person or virtually in solidarity of women and the issues we care about. Email us at [email protected] and let us know your intentions. Put in subject line WOMENS MARCH. In person. Meet in TUCW parking lot (10 Lyons Plains Road Westport) by 9:30 AM. We can carpool or caravan to the High School or some other place to park. We can arrange to have banners, and other materials to show our solidarity. Let us know if you plan to attend in this way so we can plan accordingly.Virtual support. due by Thursday 9 PM. Totally understandable if you can't get to the rally itself. So here's how your voice can be heard: we're asking you to send a picture or video, and/or written comments, as to "why I would march if I could." See page 2 below for details. Deadline, this Thursday Oct 15, 9 PM. Earlier submissions appreciated!ZOOM rally this Saturday at 4PM. If you want to show your support, but cannot be there in person, we'll be holding a ZOOM rally Saturday, 4 PM where we'll share our virtual support and enthusiasm. ZOOM info for your calendar will be in SOUNDINGS Friday morning and here: http://bit.ly/tucwzoomwomensrally Thank you! We look forward to having men, women and children join us. This is a social justice issue that affects us all, not only people who identify as women. *if you're going physically, register by clicking here so people can plan and know how many are coming: http://bit.ly/womensmarchStamfordCT Instructions for virtual participation: Dress up in red, white and blue Get out your pink "pussy" hat from 2017 and put it on! Several options for virtual participation: a. take a static picture and write 20/25 words about "why I would march if I could" or b. take a short video, 45-60 secs long, tell us "why I would march if I could" or c. send us a picture from your marching in 2017, and write us "why I marched then, and why I'm marching (virtually) now" or some combo of the three. If you have any good pictures from 2017's trip to DC, send them along, too. Please send them all to: [email protected] with WOMENS MARCH in the subject field We will then receive them and put them into a video of some sort. And in the meantime, we will also share a couple on social media as "teasers." The end results will be a video we can share with each other on our website, social media, and premiered at a ZOOM call at 4 PM on Saturday. Deadline for submissions: Thursday 9 PM. Questions?
