WATERFORD, CT — Animal Control is warning the public about a pit bull that is wandering on Broad Street by Gilead Road and Mary Street. They warned people to stay away from the dog and not to attempt to capture it.
Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control released the following statement about the lost dog on Facebook: "public service announcement, we are aware of the white and tan pit bull dog roaming on broad street by gilead/mary street. The dog is terrified and we cannot get near it, we are trying to let it settle down so we can set a trap for her, you can call in sightings, but PLEASE do not stop your car and try to capture the dog, the dog will run away from you and may go into traffic and get hit, you may cause an accident or get yourself bitten. Please do not stop and try to capture this dog, thank you."
The original Facebook post states that the pit bull was left in a crate "at the Animal Control Facility in Bates Woods in New London either last night (04-26-22) or early this morning." The dog chewed its way out and escaped, then began running on Broad Street in Waterford.
