Your argument against the second amendment is without merit. The overwhelming majority of gun violence is committed by criminals using firearms that are either illegal, or at least illegally owned. You want to punish law-abiding citizens of their right to ownership, when they're not the problem.
The solution is simple. If you wan't politicians to do something about it, then have them clean the streets of illegal firearms possessed by criminals. Once they have proven that they have succeeded in doing that, THEN we can have a real conversation. Until then, your idea is just that, an idea. It's not an answer.
