Description
VIENNA, VA — The Vienna Police Department is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Vienna Police Department's temporary facility at 301 Center Street South in Vienna, formerly Faith Baptist Church.
Residents can drop off old, expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications anonymously, along with controlled or noncontrolled substances.
The medications can be disposed of in their original containers or by removing them and disposing them directly into the collection box. If an original container is used, people should consider removing any identifying information from the prescription label.
Liquid products should remain sealed in their original container to prevent leakage. The DEA will collect vape pens or other e-cigarette devices only after the batteries are removed from the devices.
Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted due to associated hazards. The only exemption is EpiPens, which can be dropped off, police said.
Commercial businesses, pharmacies, or other medical facilities are not permitted to use the event to discard expired medications or medical waste.
Along with these twice-a-year drug take-back days, year-round pharmaceutical disposal sites are located at CVS Pharmacy at 337 East Maple Street in Vienna and CVS Pharmacy at 2912 Chain Bridge Road in Oakton.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day spearheaded by the DEA seeks to give residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of prescription drugs and educate residents about the potential of prescription drugs to be misused or abused.
