NEW HAVEN, CT — Tyrone Brown, 26, of New Haven pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Justice Department. According to court documents and statements made in court, Brown was arrested in August 2021, following a court-authorized search of his Stevens Street home found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut said. Brown's criminal history includes state convictions for felony firearm, robbery, burglary and larceny offenses, according to court records and federal prosecutors. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce. Detained since his arrest, when sentenced Brown faces a maximum 10 years in prison, per te U.S. Attorney. Brown's case was investigated by the ATF and the New Haven Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Gresham. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Department of Justice's violent crime reduction efforts.
