BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police are looking to collect expired and unwanted medications and narcotics so they don't fall into the wrong hands or contaminate ground water. The department will host a medication disposal day as part of National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new station on Elliott Street. Items accepted include old, unwanted and expired pills and over-the-counter medications, medication samples, vitamins, veterinary medications and narcotics. Not accepted on Saturday are sharps, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide or personal care projects. Needles and other sharp objects can be brought to the lobby of the police station 24 hours a day each day for disposal. Unused medications can fall into the wrong hands around the house and within the city. It is not recommended that those items be flushed down the toilet as that can lead them seeping into soil and ground water supplies. Beverly Medication Disposal partners, the Beverly Health Department and police are sponsoring the event. For more information, contact 978-921-8591.
