Description

Do you have pain and swelling around your ankles after a long day? Your shoes might be responsible for your ankle pain. Your shoes should provide a stable and supportive base that aligns your ankles with your body, minimizing strain on your ankle joints and muscles. Why Can Your Shoes Cause Ankle Pain? Common causes of ankle pain include: arthritis, stress fracture, and sprains, but incorrect shoes can cause: ● inflammation due to tight-fitting shoes putting stress on your ankle joints ● ankle sprains due to unstable high-heeled shoes. ● shoes not providing sufficient arch support if you have flat feet How to Choose the Right Shoe to Prevent Pain When buying new shoes, ensure that they are appropriate to your way of walking. They should give you the support for your type of arch and at the heel. If you’re not sure about which shoes to choose, you can consult with our physical therapist to find out which shoes are right for you. Physical Therapy for Ankle Pain Changing the shoes you wear to ones that are appropriate to how your foot moves, is an effective way to alleviate pain. However, if you wore unsupportive shoes for too long, stress on your ankle might have resulted in joint wear and tear or stress fractures. If the pain persists you should schedule an evaluation.
