HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Individuals are needed to serve on the county's multimodal transportation board. The deadline to apply is May 13. With a record level of county investment for the bicycle and pedestrian network and increasing opportunities for federal transit funding, Howard County is at a "critical juncture in the development of its transportation network." "Qualified candidates interested in helping shape the future of our system are encouraged to apply to be a member of our multimodal transportation board," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. Formed in 1976, the multimodal transportation board advises the county executive and county administration on transportation matters, particularly involving the county's local bus system contractor – the Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland, bicycle and pedestrian issues, and Complete Streets policies. The board is comprised of nine members and each member shall be experienced or interested in or a user of at least one of the following: Public transit, including fixed-route or paratransit; Bicycle transportation; Pedestrian transportation. Road networks that promote all modes of transportation; or Transportation demand management. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, qualify under one of the categories listed above and be able to attend the board meetings, which are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Board meetings are currently being held virtually via WebEx; however, meetings may transition back to in-person in the near future. Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the board to Kimberly Pruim either by email to [email protected] or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the county executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
