Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today: Tragedy struck in the French Quarter on Tuesday when a 3-year-old girl was shot and killed in the 400 block of Burgundy Street. Her two brothers, aged 18 and 19 have since been detained by police in connection with the crime. NOPD is continuing to investigate the incident. (New Orleans Patch) An elderly Slidell man apparently obtained significant injures from a 'vicious' squirrel attack. According to authorities, this is the second squirrel attack Slidell has seen this year. In the report, the man describes the squirrel jumping from near his roof onto him and trying to eat his hand. A 911 call was made and the man was still being attacked when authorities arrived. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment and the squirrel later died. (NOLA.com) In an escalation of a crime trend New Orleans has been seeing since 2019, a new report has been released stating that homicides are up by 46% compared to same period in 2021. carjackings, armed robberies and shootings have all increased as well.
