Press release from the South Bend Community School Corporation: April 26, 2022 An in-person event will be held at Riley High School on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 Members of the media and public are invited to attend a celebration to honor the district's teachers of the year on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Riley High School Auditorium. Nominees are selected by peers in their respective schools, designating them as the Teacher of the Year for their school. Of that cohort of 28, an "honors group" of ten is selected by a group of evaluators, including the overall winner and runner-up. Evaluators include administrators, retired and current teachers. All candidates are selected based on: Concern for individuals and the ability to inspire a love of learning in students of diverse backgrounds and abilities Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with fellow professionals Willingness to devote time and energy to activities that result in improved instruction for children Ability to work effectively with a variety of publics in the community Desire to keep abreast of current educational theories and practices Ability and willingness to make contributions to the field of education Examples of innovative practices implemented in the candidate's classroom The ceremony will announce the honors group, runner-up, and district Teacher of the Year. The winner will receive a $2,500 Professional Growth Grant from the South Bend Education Foundation and go on to represent the South Bend Community School Corporation at the state level as a 2022 Indiana Teacher of the Year candidate.
