WEST CHESTER — Chester County residents are urged to drop off unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine Saturday as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. both temporary and permanent prescription drug disposal sites will be available throughout the county.Organized nationwide by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the program provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs and educate the public about the misuse of medications. The county also provides resources for individuals with addiction problems. Vince Brown, director of the county department of drug and alcohol services, said the pandemic has exacerbated drug-and-alcohol-alcohol abuse issues. "As we continue to face challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we remind residents that the opioid-use disorder, along with other substance use disorders remain extremely prevalent within our communities," Brown said. In addition to the temporary sites available Saturday, Chester County has over 25 permanent prescription drug disposal locations accessible every day. Temporary sites are listed here. Permanent sites are listed here. Chester County Hospital is hosting a "Check Your Meds" program, providing a pharmacist to offer information about the medications. Registration is required for this event. To register click here. Chester County also offers treatment services for the uninsured. Information is available at these agencies.
