EVANSTON, IL — Police asked the public for help identifying an arsonist who was captured on video setting fire to a pair of cars last week. Police and fire crews were dispatched to a call of a car fire an alley off the 2300 block of Sherman Avenue around 8:15 p.m. on April 19. Firefighters extinguished two cars with their hoods on fire, a Nissan and a Toyota, without any injuries, police said. A nearby Honda appeared to have been damaged by the heat. Surveillance video shows the suspected arsonist walk up to the two cars and pour some kind of accelerant onto their hoods before lighting them on fire and running away, according to police. "As part of the investigation Evanston Police are releasing the surveillance footage to the public," police said, asking anyone with any information about suspect or the incident to contact detectives.
