Description
ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Hospital continues to treat a low number of coronavirus patients. Meanwhile, the monthly number of deaths has dropped a lot.
As of Wednesday, the hospital was seeing eight such patients. The caseload has been in the single digits since mid-March, according to the hospital's reports.
This month, the hospital has reported four deaths of coronavirus patients. If that number stays the same through month's end, it would be about a third of the monthly average of 11.5 since the pandemic's beginning.
The total number of deaths is 291.
Since March 2020, Elmhurst Hospital has discharged 2,945 COVID-19 patients.
Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst. But the city's numbers are an indicator of what's happening. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 109 new coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department. That was an increase from the previous week's 72.
The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
