PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man wanted in connection with a kidnapping was taken into custody Tuesday with the help of a K-9 team and a sheriff's helicopter crew, police said. At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Petaluma Police Department asked residents to avoid the area of Huntington Way, Wilmington Drive and Madison Street in order to take the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jeremy Hair, into custody. There was a warrant out for Hair's arrest and investigators had tracked him to a house in the area, Petaluma police Lt. Garrett Glaviano said. "At the time it was believed Hair knew officers were trying to locate him and had attempted to flee from a residence on Huntington Way," Glaviano said. "Officers formed a perimeter around the house and summoned the assistance of the Petaluma Police Department's K9 unit and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter, Henry One. A short time after the public was notified, Hair was located in the backyard of the residence the investigator had tracked him to. Hair was taken into custody without incident." According to police, the warrant for Hair stemmed from an incident on April 20 when Hair is suspected of breaking into the residence of an acquaintance, damaging property inside the home, holding the victim against her will for a short time and then forcing the victim at knifepoint to drive him away from the scene. "When they reached their destination, the victim was able to flee from the suspect after he exited the vehicle," Glaviano said. "The victim was not physically harmed during the incident." Hair was booked Tuesday into the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence, vandalism, exhibiting a deadly weapon, and kidnapping, police said. Hair remained in custody Wednesday with his bail set at $1 million, jail records showed. "The proper use of tools such as K9 units and a helicopter have proven effective in locating and isolating suspects who are attempting to flee," Glaviano said. "Additionally, their presence has often deterred suspects from choosing to resist arrest or assault officers. This is the second case this month in which the combination has been used to apprehend a dangerous suspect without incident."
