MALIBU, CA — The state Route 1, Pacific Coast Highway, will be reduced to one lane Thursday for a California Department of Transportation project.
The closure will last from 9 a.m. 2 p.m. Thursday from Deer Creek Road to Sycamore Canyon Road. Motorists should expect delays, according to Caltrans. The speed limit in the area will also be reduced to between 25 and 55 miles per hour with increased fines for violations.
The closure is part of a Caltrans project to construct a retaining wall to separate the roadway from eroded slope leading to the ocean, according to Caltrans. The $51 million project is expected to be complete by spring 2023, according to the city of Malibu.
