Press release from the City of Long Beach: April 25, 2022 Long Beach, CA – Registration for a variety of new and existing recreation classes and camps offered by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) begins Monday, May 2. More than 700 activities in art, music, nature, fitness, special interest subjects, adult sports leagues and aquatics will begin in June and continue throughout the summer months. Residents can browse the summer classes in the latest issue of Recreation Connection, PRM's programs catalog, at LBParks.org or at Long Beach park community centers and Long Beach Public Library branches. "We look forward to providing our community with activities for all interests and ages this summer," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "I am proud of our Parks Department for ensuring all residents have access to safe and healthy outdoor experiences." In addition to fee-based classes, Recreation Connection lists free and low-cost activities for families including youth sports leagues, teen centers and senior centers, Be S.A.F.E. extended supervised recreation programs at designated parks, free movies and concerts, and much more. "I am excited about all the great summer programs we are offering throughout Long Beach," said PRM Director Brent Dennis. "From week-long themed camps for kids, free family programs at parks, and events planned to celebrate Parks Make Life Better Month in July, there are hundreds of ways to make this a memorable summer through recreation." The new class additions for the summer include options for every age range, including: Preschool Mini-Hawk Camp (Soccer, Baseball & Basketball) for children ages 4 to 6 Preschool Cooking Time for children ages 4 and up. Little Music Maker (Introduction to Music) for children ages 3 to 5. Youth New Specialty Camps, including Minecraft Engineering Using Lego® Materials and Top Junior Chef Cooking Camp D-Up Ballers Basketball, Jujitsu and Soccer 1 Techniques and Teamwork Adults Ceramics Workshop, Line Dance, Aerobics Lite and Karate Beginning May 2, residents can register for classes online, in person or by mail: Online: Register anytime on LB Reconnect.
