DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A Burnsville man was arrested Monday on charges connected to the fatal overdose of Eagan teen Hunter Carlson, 16, according to a news release from The Dakota County Attorney's Office. Jamal Ahmed Adan, 29, and Bloomington resident Sadiq Aden Isack, 27, were both charged with third-degree murder and a third-degree controlled substance crime in relation to Carlson's death, prosecutors said. Though Adan has been arrested, Isack is still at large, according to court officials. Adan's bail was set to $300,000 without conditions and $250,000 with conditions, the Attorney's Office said. His next court appearance will be May 18, according to court officials. Eagan police officers were called to Carlson's home Jan. 28, 2021, when his mother found him laying in his bed, unresponsive, prosecutors said. Despite life-saving efforts, Carlson was pronounced dead, according to the Attorney's Office. Officers learned that Carlson was experimenting with Percocet and that he and his friend had bought pills from Adan and Isack, according to prosecutors. Carlson's friend brought the pills to Carlson's house and each of them snorted half a pill, court officials said. 15 minutes later, Carlson snorted the second half of his pill, according to prosecutors. The autopsy showed that Carlson died of positional asphyxia complicating acute fentanyl toxicity, according to the Attorney's Office. A motion was filed to charge Carlson's friend as an adult, but it was denied by the court, the Attorney's Office said. He will be on Juvenile Probation until he turns 21, court officials said. Patch is not naming Carlson's friend because he is a minor. "Fentanyl poisoning continues to be a serious and significant problem in the Twin Cities," Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena said. "My deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Hunter Carlson for their great loss."
