Police Escort Home For Recovering North Quincy Hockey Player

QUINCY, MA — Three weeks after suffering a scary injury during a high school hockey game in Pembroke, North Quincy senior Connor Kulig received a police escort back to his Quincy home on Thursday. Quincy police said officers from the Special Operations Unit escorted Kulig home from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Kulig had been recovering at the hospital since the night of Jan. 8 when he was hit during a game against Scituate at Pembroke's Pilgrim Arena, suffered a broken neck, and lost feeling in parts of his body. He has since steadily recovered amid an outpouring of support from the state's hockey community, friends, neighbors and family. "It's been very overwhelming," North Quincy AD J.J. Niamkey told Patch on two days after the injury. "Not only from teams in our league, but from throughout the high school hockey community. It's always great to see people react like that when something like this happens. These kids see each other and play against each other on teams day in and day out throughout the year. When you see this type of reaction you realize how close each kid is to one another." WCVB-TV also recognized Kulig in the station's "High 5" segment this week.
