QUINCY, MA — A Quincy middle school student is recovering in the hospital Thursday afternoon after being struck while crossing Hancock Street near Central Middle School Thursday morning. Central Middle School Principal Rick DeCristofaro sent a letter to the school community saying "the Central Middle School community will keep this student and family in our thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery." DeCristofaro's letter said that Quincy emergency personnel and school staff responded outside of the school when the student was struck crossing Hancock Street during the morning commute. The student was transported to the hospital and the students who witnessed the incident have been identified and given a chance to speak with counselors or trusted staff members. He said all students at the school were informed of the incident. "We understand that this is a traumatic event and students may need a safe place to express their thoughts at a later date, and the staff will be available to respond," DeCristofaro wrote. "As always, your student's safety and well-being if of great importance to all of us at Central Middle School." DeCristofaro said any parents with concerns can contact his office at 617-984-8725. Members of the guidance staff are also available: Taylor Ward (Grade 6) 617-376-5206, Kathy Mahoney (Grade 7) 617-376-5202 or Lili Moy (Grade 8) 617-376-5205.
