Groundskeeper duties and responsibilities Groundskeepers maintain natural environments. Their duties may vary, depending on the grounds themselves, but some of the most common duties of a Groundskeeper are: • Maintaining gardens, property grounds, common area & patios • Caring for and cultivating foliage including planting, fertilizing, weeding, watering, trimming and pruning, soil conditioning, mulching and applying pesticides & weed killer • Maintaining sprinkler and irrigation systems • Operating and maintaining garden and landscaping equipment • Submitting supplies and equipment order • Properly maintaining tools & equipment • Maintain residential and commercial property grounds on a daily basis including but not limited to mowing, trimming, weeding, edging, etc. • Responsible for the exterior curb appeal and cleanliness of the properties. • Report any physical damage or concerns about the exterior of buildings & property grounds • Light maintenance improvements as necessary to physical exterior. • Knowledge of irrigation and outdoor lighting a plus. • Power washing sidewalks, buildings and parking lots as needed. • Other duties as assigned. Groundskeeper skills and qualifications Groundskeepers may bring a variety of skills to their positions, depending on previous jobs. Typically, however, they should be able to meet these qualifications: • Knowledge of basic types of foliage, flowers, trees, shrubs and other greenery, and how to maintain them helpful. • Knowledge of gardening products such as fertilizers and pesticides helpful. • Familiarity with sprinkler systems and other landscaping equipment. • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors for long periods of time • Ability to lift 50 pounds • A valid driver's license • Reliable transportation (Truck is a plus) • Must be reliable. (Possible flexibility with days and hours worked but must be able to adhere to agreed upon schedule) • Must be able to follow direction and work with minimal day to day supervision. (Brief daily reports to be submitted via email or text along with photos) • Detail oriented with a critical eye • Proactive • Must be accepting of constructive criticism and feedback • Honest & Trustworthy
