WEST HAVEN, CT — Two people were displaced from their home after a fire Sunday in West Haven, according to officials. The American Red Cross is helping a family of two adults, no children, after a fire on Saw Mill Road, officials said. Firefighters from all three of the city's fire districts responded to 421 Saw Mill Rd. on the report of a structure fire. "Initial dispatch was for an activated fire alarm but was upgraded to a working fire shortly after arrival," officials wrote in a post on the West Haven Professional Firefighters- IAFF Local 1198 union's Facebook page. "The fire was quickly extinguished and remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office." The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the family's immediate needs. "The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire," officials wrote in a news release. "In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided."
