Adoption Program for Working For Animals, Inc is a 503b non-profit no-kill animal rescue that does TNR (trap neuter return) and rescues animals that have been abused, dumped or born on the streets. We are dedicated to eliminating animal homelessness, and finding forever homes for our rescues. What is a working cat? The working cat adoption program was developed in order to find adopters for our cat rescues who are semi-feral (not socialized to humans), who would not be happy living a life in a home as a companion animal, but deserve a safe and happy life off the streets. Working cats serve as natural rodent deterrents (the smell of their urine can be enough to keep the rodents away) and are adopted out to people that have secure properties with natural light and ventilation (see examples below) in which the cats have the freedom to roam. We will not adopt out these semi-feral kitties to people who plan to put them in dark, windowless spaces, basements, or cages. All potential adopters are screened. What types of situations may be appropriate for working cat adoptees? 1. Barns and farms 2. Stables 3. Greenhouses 4. Wineries 5. Places of Worship 6. Studios All working cat adopters provide food, shelter, water and access to medical care for their adoptees. Most rodents are deterred by cat urine itself, but as we know, cats are natural predators, and will follow their instincts to pursue rodents and other prey.
