QCAP's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is looking for volunteers who are interested in sharing their skills, talent and knowledge. As a volunteer, you will help low-income individuals and families by preparing tax returns free of charge. Volunteer tax preparation helps individuals and families claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), federal tax benefits that help workers care for their families, withstand unexpected economic changes, and reduce poverty. All tax volunteers will work remotely from their homes to ensure the safety of volunteers, staff and tax clients. This is an unpaid volunteer position. You can help by training to be a Tax Preparer/ Quality Reviewer or a Client Service Assistant. We are also looking for Interpreters/ Translators to help with language translation between clients and tax preparers, especially volunteers who speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic and Haitian-Creole. No prior experience necessary. Before you begin, you’ll attend a free training on tax law. Our site coordinator and trainer will answer any questions and help you through the process. Commitment: Tax Preparers/Quality Reviewers volunteer for at least 3 hours per week. We offer flexible scheduling. Our tax preparation services begin on February 1, 2021 and run until April 15, 2021.
