Description

This event is for Massachusetts public and charter high school teachers. Join EcoRise and colleagues for a guided tour of the George Robert White Environmental Conservation Center at the Boston Nature Center (BNC). We'll explore the first green municipal building in the City of Boston and learn about its green technology features ranging from energy and water conservation to reusable and locally sourced materials! After the tour, participants will have the option to explore the BNC's 2 miles of trails that weave through various landscapes and the Clark Cooper Community Gardens. Snacks will be provided! ABOUT THE BOSTON NATURE CENTER & WILDLIFE SANCTUARY Located just outside of downtown Boston on the former grounds of the Boston State Hospital, the Boston Nature Center (BNC) is a community-based urban sanctuary. Trails and boardwalks traverse meadows and wetlands, home to over 150 species of birds, 40 species of butterflies, and more than 350 species of plants. Year-round programs help foster an appreciation for nature and the environment. The George Robert White Environmental Conservation Center at BNC grew out of a strong commitment to conservation and environmental protection from both the City of Boston and Mass Audubon. This field experience is provided through the Green Building Academy designed to activate a new generation of sustainability leaders and made possible by the generous support of Eversource Energy. The program provides high school students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to tackle climate change and sustainability challenges while introducing them to green professionals and careers. * A $50 stipend will be provided to all eligible MA high school teachers that participate in the event.
