Description

Shamanic Drum Journey + Cacao Song Circle “In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?” -Gabrielle Roth This community event will be a special offering to introduce and invite universal, non-appropriative shamanic practices like drumming, singing, dancing, and storytelling, to rebuild ritual, circle, and belonging around these ancient arts that bring our bodies, minds, and souls comfort and freedom. Beginners with a desire to deepen are very welcome! The purpose and intent is for each person to connect more deeply with themselves, their personal guidance systems, the natural world's wisdom, and our community in the process. You'll be given the opportunity to both receive and participate in the expressions of the evening, and hopefully have a ton of fun in the process! My personal heritage means my shamanic roots lay in Norse shamanism. I will bring my rune stones down to try out during the snack break, but otherwise, this will be an experience of universal, non-appropriative shamanic practices including drumming, singing, dancing, and storytelling. I will also call in the loving web of helping beings that have our highest interest in mind. You have full permission to set your own personal containers for your own comfort in this. One main tenant of shamanic drumming is that the rhythm of the drumbeat helps relax our brains into theta-wave states, which we experience during meditative and spiritual experiences. During the guided drumming section, a person may experience anything from a simple relaxation, to body sensations, to visuals or extrasensory experiences (hearing guidance, having a felt sense of "knowing", etc). There is no right or wrong way to experience a shamanic drum journey, other than ensuring that you're comfortable. As a whole, this practice is about creating a container to support direct revelation for each participant, rather than telling anyone what their spirituality or life "should" be like. Many shamanic practitioners believe we are entering the non-ordinary world or spirit realms to talk to loving, helping guides, spirits, and elemental beings. Some may believe that any visuals or revelations are simply metaphorical and internal. We do not need to know or prove which of these is true in order to enjoy the benefits of and be transformed by the experience. Some things that will help you enjoy your drum journey experience include: Setting an intention or holding a question for yourself (without too much attachment) before the event. Eating lightly or not eating within a few hours of the event. Refraining from altering substances (alcohol, drugs, tobacco, etc) for 24 hours before the event. (Note: Please do not arrive on ANY substances for this event. You will be asked to leave without refund if you do.) This will be a brief introduction to journeying, so if you are just beginning or curious for more info, check out Sandra Ingerman's Shamanic Journeying FAQ's.
