Five Hospitalized Following Carbon Monoxide Incident In Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, MA—A great grandmother, mother, and three children were transported To Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Tuesday morning following a carbon monoxide incident at a home on Kings Pond Plain Road. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. and involved a 10 month old, 2 year old, and 10 year old, according to a Tweet sent out by reporter Mike Saccone and confirmed by Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley. "We had gotten a 911 call from an occupant of the house who said they were smelling an odor," said Bradley. "Someone else in the house went downstairs at that time and said the furnace is making noise and smoking." The cause of the carbon monoxide poisoning appeared to be the malfunctioning furnace and the lack of working carbon monoxide detectors within the home, said Bradley. Fire officials only found one carbon monoxide detector, which was over five years old and not in a good spot to detect any issues. "The children were transported as a precaution due to the levels of carbon monoxide crews found in the home," said Bradley. "We don't know how long the carbon monoxide levels were in the home before we got there." Bradley said the children's grandmother refused treatment and a 13 year old had already left for school. The school was notified and the child was going to be taken to the hospital to be checked out for carbon monoxide poisoning. This incident remains under investigation by the Plymouth Fire Department.
