Doors at 1:00pm | Films at 1:30pm Mountain Revelations follows three professional snowboarders (Jeremy Jones, Ryan Hudson and Rafael Pease) on a human-powered ten-day mission in a remote corner of Alaska's Chugach Mountain Range. As they explore epic lines on the steep and unforgiving terrain, the physical and emotional challenges they overcome during the harsh, endless days of the waning Alaskan winter serve as a catalyst to examine the roles their backgrounds had on their respective paths to this expedition. He's driven by the outdoors, spending his time recreating in the mountains of Wyoming. Represented by films such as Jeremy Jones' Higher and Andy Irons: Kissed by God, JFann's goal in filmmaking is to connect people and to inspire. Keeping an open narrative and avoiding too much focus on any one expectation is where JFann believes the most intimate moments of storytelling appear. Short Film: WHEN IT'S GOOD IT'S GOOD (dir. Alejandra Vasquez) Runtime: 16min Year: 2022 A filmmaker returns to her hometown in West Texas to document the effects of the boom-and-bust nature of the oil industry. Unexpectedly, she documents the political transformation that takes place in her family over five years and two election cycles. An intimate portrait of place, family, memory, politics and economy, When It’s Good, It’s Good centers around life in an oil town called Denver City, Texas. Raised in West Texas, Vasquez’s film When It’s Good, It’s Good documents her hometown’s relationship to the boom-and-bust cycle of the oil industry. Vasquez co-directed the short films Varsity Oro (2020 Pop-Up Magazine) and Folk Frontera (Independent Lens/PBS, 2022 SXSW), winner of the Grand Jury Award in the Texas Shorts category at SXSW. Short Film: THOMAS DEININGER. TRASH ARTIST (dir. Gnarly Bay) Runtime: 4min Year: 2019 The film Thomas Deininger. Trash Artist. welcomes us into an artist’s world of anxiety and hope surrounding human consumption. Both the art and the film work to reconstruct our understanding of trash in order to confront the perverse plastic waste catastrophe that humanity needs to stop ignoring.
