This Sunday May 1, 12-1pm we are hosting a mushroom gardening workshop and mushroom spawn giveaway at Garbage Hill Farm Join Chicago Community Gardener and Forager, Ryan Lodge at Garbage Hill Farm this Sunday and learn how you can grow Black Pearl Oyster, Elm Oyster, Blue Oyster, Brown Oyster and Chestnut mushrooms.   At the workshop Ryan will demystify mushroom growing by demonstrating a few simple steps and readily available waste materials (newspaper, coffee, sawdust, straw) needed to start low tech mushroom gardens with no pasteurization or sterilization required. Participants in the workshop will receive myceliated grain spawn and the basic knowledge required to grow mushrooms in your community. The workshop will also cover how to grow even more Mushrooms off of used Mushroom substrate after it has fruited.  Spent mushroom blocks are the waste product of commercial Mushroom farms,  can be acquired for FREE and can be used as spawn for low tek mushroom gardens.
