09 June, 2022

Description

This event will feature an exclusive opportunity for PIs inspired by the previous event to pitch responsive ideas and projects. The NCI-designated UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCI CFCCC) plays a leading role in the fight against cancer, a leading cause of death in Orange County. Researchers in the UCI CFCCC design and test new therapeutics and diagnostics to improve cancer treatment, early detection, and survivorship. To stimulate new innovations responsive to the needs of cancer patients and the treatment providers, we are hosting a start-up generator event designed to leverage Orange County’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to improve the lives of cancer patients. The event will showcase patient and physician experiences in focus-group panels and culminate in a “Pitch Day” with TED-style talks to drive development of market-driven innovations. The events are intended for an audience of faculty, students, venture capitalists, funding agencies, patient advocacy groups, and key opinion leaders including but not limited to cancer patients and their families. This event will feature an exclusive opportunity for Cancer Center members inspired by the previous event to pitch responsive ideas and projects to angel investors and entrepreneurs. The most promising ideas will compete for funding and are expected to drive future research and result in new intellectual property potentially of interest to investors. There will be a funding pool for investigators to compete for during "Pitch Day" in hopes to bring forward proposals that address unmet cancer patient needs. Event subject to change based on institution's COVID-19 policy to large group gatherings. Refreshments to be served as long as the institution's policy deems it appropriate for safety and health precautions.
