Description

I had already been scammed by con artists on Craigslist when this “lady” wanted me to post ads for her real estate business. I should have seen through her BS at the beginning and just ignored her. But I was still learning the painful truth that evildoers are everywhere, even on CL. She was calling herself Theresa Merrins and claimed to be a realtor with property listings in Louisville, KY, Norfolk, VA, and El Paso, TX. She hired me to post ads on CL for her properties. She told me she would pay me $850 to post 10 ads per week! That should have been my first clue that this person was scamming me. She never paid me the $340 she owed me. Her email name was merrinstheresa112. I received a reply email from somebody who was interested in one of her listings and I told them that I was no longer a listing agent for Theresa Merrins and gave them her email address. I also said that I had contacted Coldwell Banker, which “Theresa” claimed to work for, to report her for not paying me. They had replied that they had no record of a Theresa Merrins in their national database. And they further noted that “Our industry has seen a steady increase of scams on Craigslist using agents' names and properties that we are marketing.” So be forewarned if you are approached by “realtors”, “credit repair experts”, or others claiming to pay you for posting ads or whatever! If it sounds like it is too good to be true it probably is. But there is a silver lining to all of this. It’s because of companies like these that I am devoting my writing business to investigative reporting and consumer issues. See you on the web.
