Press release from the Port Jefferson School District:
April 26, 2022
Edna Louise Spear Elementary School students used lessons in research and technology and turned to the environment to create a unique Makey Makey project.
Amy Castaldo's third grade class chose a favorite historical figure, including Neil Armstrong, Simone Biles, Marie Curie, Jimmy Fallon and Abraham Lincoln, and came up with five facts for their person. They then designed a paper cutout, pasted them on recycled plastic bottles and secured brass fasteners to serve as buttons. The next step was working with Eastern Suffolk BOCES teacher integration specialist Carrie McGuire to finish their "biography bottles."
The students recorded their voices stating the five facts on each of their Chromebooks, fashioned a foil bracelet to serve as the ground, connected a USB cord and alligator clips to the fasteners on their paper cutout and viola, their voice made for an interactive plastic bottle museum that they shared among their classmates.
