NEW YORK CITY — New York City's elite high schools aren't just the best in the city — they're among the top 100 nationwide, according to a new ranking. No city school fared better in U.S. News and World Report's latest "Best High Schools" annual ranking than Townsend Harris High School in Queens. The Kew Gardens Hills school is 19th nationwide, according to the ranking. Overall, 11 city high schools counted among the 100 best nationwide, the ranking states. Those exact ranks and schools are as follows: 19. Townsend Harris High School, Kew Gardens Hills, Queens 25. Queens High School for the Sciences at York College, Jamaica, Queens 36. Stuyvesant High School, Battery Park City, Manhattan 38. High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY, Harlem, Manhattan 41. Bronx High School of Science, Bedford Park, The Bronx 46. Brooklyn Technical High School, Fort Greene, Brooklyn 63. Staten Island Technical High School, New Dorp, Staten Island 64. High School of American Studies at Lehman College, Jerome Park, The Bronx 79. Brooklyn Latin School, Bushwick, Brooklyn 89. High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies, Lower East Side, Manhattan 98. Baccalaureate School for Global Education, Astoria, Queens Here are the top 10 schools in this year's national Best High Schools ranking: Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology - Alexandria, Virginia Academic Magnet High School - North Charleston, South Carolina Signature School - Evansville, Indiana School for Advanced Studies - Miami, Florida Payton College Preparatory High School - Chicago, Illinois The Davidson Academy of Nevada - Reno, Nevada Central Magnet School - Murfreesboro, Tennessee The School for the Talented and Gifted - Dallas, Texas Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology - Lawrenceville, Georgia Julia R. Masterman Secondary School - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania This year's schools were ranked on six measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, state assessment proficiency, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance and graduation rates. The data used in this year's ranking is from the 2019-20 academic school year.
