CLEARWATER, FL — A Clearwater police officer was arrested Thursday after being accused of driving under the influence. A Pinellas County sheriff's deputy pulled over Officer Jeremy Curvan, 40, for driving his Ford truck without tag lights. When he approached the truck, the deputy noticed the smell of alcohol on Curvan's breath. The sheriff's office said Curvan admitted to drinking beer before the stop and showed signs of impairment. However, he refused to take a field sobriety or breathalyzer test. Clearwater Police Chief Daniel Slaughter said his department is taking disciplinary measures. "We were disappointed to learn of the arrest and have begun the process required to take the appropriate corrective action," Slaughter said. "Officers see the harmful impact of driving under the influence firsthand and are expected to be an example for the community."
